Tucker County High School has implemented three programs to recognize student achievement, behavior, and attendance: Students of the Week, Principal’s Recognition Award, and All Stars.

s of the Week is an initiative of the Mountain Lion CARE Committee. CARE stands for courtesy, attitude, responsibility, and engagement. Students are nominated by their teachers for consistently going above and beyond academic expectations and displaying CARE attributes. Mr. Darren Burnside, one of the CARE Committee members explained that CARE exemplifies our school’s Mission Statement and hopes that the CARE initiative will enhance the school climate. The first week’s selection for Students of the Week included Zack Colebank, Wyatt Betler, Cheyann Gooden, Wyatt Gravelle, Ben Kines, and Samantha Chambers. Students were presented with a certificate and given an hour-long lunch.
Principal Steve Cosner recognized Ryan Prevatte as the first recipient of the Principal’s Recognition Award. Prevatte had perfect attendance for that week and was presented with a certificate and given an hour-long lunch.

The All Star program recognizes those students who have maintained a 2.5 GPA, have received no discipline referrals, and have no more than two absences (including both excused and unexcused absences) during a nine weeks grading period. Students meeting these criteria will be rewarded with a trip each nine weeks. The All Star initiative for the Second Nine Weeks began October 17. For the first trip, students will be ice skating at Cannan Valley Resort.
