Cheryl Nestor-DeBerry Elected to Foundation Board

The Board of Directors of Tucker Community Foundation (TCF) recently elected Cheryl Nestor-DeBerry of Oakland, Maryland to a three year term. Garrett County is part of the eight county region served by TCF.

Cheryl Nestor-DeBerryDeBerry grew up on the Nestor family farm in Tucker County. A graduate of Tucker County High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Marketing and a Minor in Computer Science from West Virginia Wesleyan College, and a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Education from West Virginia University.

In 2002, DeBerry was hired as the Agriculture Marketing Specialist for the Garrett County Department of Economic Development. In 2009 her title changed to Natural Resources Business Specialist where her duties include helping to expand local markets for agricultural and natural resources products, helping entrepreneurs with marketing planning, writing grants for various projects, keeping local and state officials updated on agricultural and natural resources issues, working with local rural development organizations, and working to keep agriculture and natural resources as viable business options for young people.

Along with her husband, Charles and daughters, Anna and Carla, Cheryl is part of DeBerry Farm Fresh Produce, a family farm north of Oakland. Since 1998 they have marketed fresh vegetables, berries, melons and herbs at farmers markets and other local outlets.

TCF President David Cooper states, “Cheryl was one of our first scholarship recipients and now this board is now going to benefit by her expertise and knowledge. It’s wonderful to see the benefit of a donor’s vision and generosity come full circle.”
